An exciting career opportunity has become available for a talented Assistant Social Media Coordinator to join the Press Office at U.S. Embassy, London. As the Assistant Social Media Coordinator you will have first line responsibility for implementing the social media strategy of the U.S. Mission in the United Kingdom, including Embassy London, the Consulates, and various agencies and offices.
Working within the Digital Outreach Team, you will oversee the daily operation of the Embassy’s social media platforms by working with the Digital Media & Multimedia Specialists to develop and produce content for Embassy London’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
We are looking for a skilled communicator with outstanding interpersonal skills who is able to engage in online outreach activities with UK and other audiences, moderating online community contacts and reporting on online conversations in the UK social media sphere.
Beyond your main duties, you will also serve as a backup to the Public Affairs (PA) Webmaster, ensuring stakeholder content is posted on the website in a timely manner and that Embassy London’s social media materials are fully incorporated on the Mission’s website.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION:  A university degree in Political Science, Politics, Government, Media Studies, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English, American Studies, History or International Relations is required.
EXPERIENCE: Experience in public affairs or public relations, media production, advertising, web development or UK journalism is required.
LANGUAGE:  Level IV (fluent) in both written and spoken English is required.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:  Basic understanding of U.S. and UK foreign and domestic policy and current affairs is required. Significant knowledge of the UK social media and political environment and broader UK media/information landscape is required.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES:   Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and ability to work both independently and within a team is required. Strong written and verbal communications are required. Technical ability to use social media and engagement/monitoring tools, e.g. Hootsuite, TweetDeck, WordPress, Adobe Suite & final cut pro or similar is required. Ability to exercise good judgment, creativity, tactical and strategic thinking to solve complex problems and respond to requests from target audiences is required.
