Assistant professor in Development Economics

The Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration (NHH), Department of Economics invites applications for a four year position as Post-doc in Development Economics. The position is a part of a micro-finance project funded by The Research Council of Norway and CMI (Chr. Michelsen Institute). The Department offers a stimulating research environment, Development Economics being one active field of research, spanning both theoretical and empirical work. In particular, there is an active research group in microfinance, entrepreneurship and development. The Department now wants to strengthen this research group by recruiting a Post-doc.

The applicants will be assessed based on an overall evaluation of documented professional competence. Scientific competence will be evaluated in terms of the amount and quality of research in development economics, and in particular on microfinance and entrepreneurship in a development context. The ideal candidate should demonstrate research capabilities in recent developments in the field, for example using controlled field trials and experimental economics.

Faculty members at the Norwegian School of Economics are expected to be good teachers. Applicants' pedagogical qualifications will be considered on the basis of experience in teaching and student supervision. In addition to submitting written documentation, possible appointees may be required to meet for an interview, and to give a trial lecture and/or a seminar.

The appointee is expected to be involved in teaching and student supervision in degree programs at all levels. In particular, teaching and supervision of master and doctoral students who specialize in macroeconomics will be important tasks. Salary is negotiable according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale for Post-docs.

•Local research funds will be available for travelling grants for conference and workshop presentations. Good facilities in terms of extensive research library, personal equipment and personal annum for books and journals.

• Publications in international refereed journals have high priority. A selection of A-Journal publications is rewarded with publication bonus in the order of NOK 80000 (single authorship). In addition the personal annum can be increased through publications in some other selected journals.

• Favorable arrangement which will make the appointee a member of the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund.

The appointee must comply with the guidelines that apply to the position at anytime. The appointee may also be required to enroll in a pedagogical course of short duration.
