Programme Manager - Sustainable Development

There is a growing concern globally that development must observe the socio-economic and environmental pillars in order for it to fulfill long-term objectives. The sustainable development process requires investment in opportunities that will not create a socio-economic debt in the future nor compromise the resilience capacity of the environment to support growth. Sustainable development is in this respect, a comprehensive concept which embraces all facets of human life and thereby has implications on adequacy
of national policies and strategies.

During the NDP 10, an Environment and Climate Change component will be implemented as part of the United Nations Development Assistance Programme (UNDAF). The various activities that are to be undertaken during the programme range from environmental information systems, organizational structures, environmental legislation, multilateral environmental agreements, integrated water resources management, community based natural resources management and development of the National Sustainable Development Framework.

The development of this framework will draw from lessons and experiences in implementing the diverse development and environment polices and implementation of multi-lateral environmental agreements ratified by Botswana. A suite of activities has been programmed under the UNDAF to contribute to the development of effective tools towards enabling the implementation of the sustainable development goals and more strategically alignment of programmes to the global Agenda 21.
