The University of Southampton is one of the top 15 research universities in the UK. To build on success in research and education, the Faculty of Natural and Environmental Sciences is inviting applications for a Professorial leader.

We are seeking a world-class scholar with an established track record of leadership in research, teaching and enterprise who will hold a Chair and also the role of Head of the Centre for Biological Sciences. Selection criteria for applications will include:

  • evidence of international distinction in research in the applicant's primary field of interest, through publications and invited lectures
  • evidence of sustained, major, peer-reviewed funding in their research area
  • managerial experience and research leadership commensurate with leading a Centre for Biological Sciences
  • the ability to enhance the University of Southampton's reputation in Biological Sciences with research interests closely aligned to the strategic priorities of the major funding bodies.

The Faculty spans a range of disciplines in three academic units: Biological Sciences, Chemistry and Ocean & Earth Science. The University has recently invested £50 million in a new Life Sciences building at the heart of the University's main campus and the creation of a multidisciplinary Institute for Life Sciences. The Centre for Biological Sciences is at the hub of interdisciplinary initiatives in the Life Sciences, particularly with respect to cellular and molecular, biomedical and environmental biosciences. It has a vital role in contributing to the achievement of Southampton's ambitious plans for the future.
