Salary: Based on education and experience

The Council on Foreign Relations (CFR) is one of the nation's leading foreign policy membership organizations. It is dedicated to being a resource to help improve understanding of the foreign policy issues and choices facing the United States and other countries. CFR does this by convening a high volume of events with prominent world leaders, through cutting-edge research, and through publishing the preeminent U.S. foreign policy publication, Foreign Affairs.

The core constituency of CFR is its individual and corporate membership. There are currently over 4,300 individual members and over 200 corporate member companies. The assistant will work as the right hand to the vice president, who heads the individual and corporate membership programs, and develops CFR’s international activities.

Qualified candidates will have related experience that required excellent judgment, discretion, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize. The major responsibilities of this position include (but are not limited to):

  • Providing administrative support for the vice president, including handling of phone lines and mail, managing calendar, and making travel arrangements
  • Drafting internal memos and other correspondence
  • Proofreading departmental documents and external correspondence
  • Assist with the on boarding of new MCI staff, coordinating closely with the Business Manager and HR
  • Planning the MCI monthly meetings and retreats, including logistics, speakers, and editing team strategy documents
  • Coordinating various departmental submissions, including a weekly report for the president and quarterly Board updates
  • Preparing and coordinating background materials needed for external and internal meetings
  • Help maintain the MCI department intranet page and other online resources
  • Acting as a liaison between the vice president and departmental staff – prioritizing needs and flagging deadlines
  • Assisting with coordination of committee meetings and staffing corporate member events
  • Drafting and submitting invoice and reimbursement documents

Serve as a backup to managing departmental communications and processing membership dues during periods of high volume


Qualifications


Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years experience providing administrative support to a senior executive
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Exceptional proofreading and editing skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Suite and database
  • Proven experience working with high level contacts
  • Experience in logistical aspects of program planning preferred
  • Flexible, dynamic, results-oriented individual who enjoys working on a team
  • BA in related field with high academic credentials, and interest in current foreign policy issues
