DATA COLLECTION SUPERVISOR
(1-year contract)

A cost-to-company remuneration package of between R207 224 – R222 766 will be negotiated in accordance with qualifications and experience.

We are seeking to appoint a skilled provincial supervisor in the Free State Province to manage provincial activities for a national survey that aims to measure the operational effectiveness of the PMTCT programme at six weeks post-delivery, and then at 6, 9, 12 and 18 months (or other specified followup visits).

Data Collection Supervisors are responsible for:

  • Obtaining permission letters from the province/districts for data collection
  • Liaising with clinics/CHC’s to make arrangements for data collection
  • Overall management of logistics and the data collection team
  • Planning the daily/weekly data collection plan in conjunction with fieldworkers/data collection teams/central MRC office and clinics
  • Following standard operating procedures for the survey
  • Ensuring the collection of high-quality data (including checking participant selection in relation to standard operating procedures and clinic statistics, checking interview data on the dashboard, checking consent forms for correct completion, checking for discrepancies between laboratory forms, tracking sheets and DBS cards and checking quality of dried blood spots)
  • Conducting weekly meetings with fieldworkers to address concerns/difficulties/challenges in the fields
  • Managing data collection supplies
  • Collecting dried blood spot (DBS) from sites for transportation to central laboratories, where routine systems do not exist, or working to strengthen routine systems for DBS transport to the laboratory
  • Ensuring all tracking sheets, consent forms and laboratory forms are completed correctly
  • Handling and monitoring payment of claims and advances between field workers and central MRC office and arranging accommodation and transport for the data collection team, if necessary
  • Liaising with the central MRC co-ordinators on a weekly basis
  • Arranging meetings with key provincial stakeholders and capacity development workshops for provincial staff, as needed.

Candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • A university or nursing qualification in health-related fields
  • Experience in HIV-related research in a management capacity
  • Working experience in maternal, neonatal or child health care, gained within a provincial or district health department
  • Commitment to working with health care staff
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to work from 07:00 each week day
  • Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel within the province
  • Willingness to reside within allocated province.

Although not essential, the following would prove advantageous:

  • Previous employment in a provincial or district health department in a management capacity (e.g. clinic manager)
  • Working experience in MCH/PHC/EPI/HIV/PMTCT
  • Working in a management capacity in large health related surveys.
