Job mission

• To be fully conversant in the Radio O & M environment with respect to equipment functionality and configuration. Offer assistance on request and solve any complex faults that exist in the RBS family by pin pointing the fault to equipment hardware or software and to meet customer demand reflecting MTN brand values in all areas of operation.
• Supervise technical activities; vision and expertise ensuring staff competencies meet the convergent technological challenges of the future.

KPA duties

• To be fully conversant in the various types of RBS equipment. This includes troubleshooting and faultfinding, link analysis, RF functionality, power equipment etc.
• Have a full understanding of the various packages used to monitor and improve the quality and performance of the network e.g. Optima, Neptune, Remedy etc.
• Ensure materials and resources are available for emergency maintenance and planned/upgrade work and that the tasks are performed timeously.
• To ensure a routine program is in place to monitor the progress of the BTS routine maintenance.
• Site inspections to ensure that the “ BTS and Field Maintenance” is performed at a high standard and according to the specification and contract respectively.
• Submit reports to designated management, as per requirements.
• Ensure objectives set by management is achieved within the measured period.
• Be fully aware and write/update Radio O & M and Implementation procedures and guidelines where applicable.
• Ensure that all staff are applying procedures in their day-to-day activities, especially regarding all documentation.
• Keep Operations Head informed of the progress of any projects being dealt which includes reports.
• Improve network availability and quality on a continuous basis.
• Communicate all faults, planned work and assigned callout through the correct channels.
• Perform all tasks in an accurate and professional manner and maintain a good working relationship within the network operations and all internal and external clients.
• Ensure all administrative documentation and databases are correctly completed or updated, accurately and timeously.
• Ensure Policies and Procedures are adhered to through ISO 9001,ISO14000 & QMS.
• To liaise and assist the dealers and service providers and interface with Marketing and Sales in the areas of responsibility.

Supervisory / Leadership / Managerial Tasks:

• To project manager allocated BTS areas & contractors ensuring due dates and quality are strictly adhered to.
• Supervise staff and training programs.
• Devise methods and systems to improved performance of staff and the service provided to our customers.

Role Dependencies:

• Good inter-personal skills with MTN Staff, contractors and customers and build a good future working relationship and to assist the customer with “coverage & quality” complaints.

Educational requirements

• Minimum qualification is a National diploma N6, S4, T3 in Electrical light-current/electronics/communication engineering. Higher National diploma or degree will be advantages.
• Code 8 EB drivers licence

Experience required

• Must have natural leadership and supervisory ability with a minimum of five years' experience in the telecoms industry with at least Two years actively performing Radio Engineer functions in the GSM environment.
• Transmission experience. (2M/bit and equipment)
• Radio frequency propagation and radio/Micro Wave equipment installation and or maintenance.
• Experienced in working in elevated positions.
• Computer literate with Windows and MS Office experience
• Prepared to work long hours and travel long distances.
• Vast knowledge of area required.

Skills required

Knowledge:

• A good knowledge of the operation, maintenance, planning and implementation of Digital Transmission, Microwave RF transmission and multiplexing systems.
• A good knowledge of 2 Mb transmission architecture.
• Computer literate with practical experience in the use of the Microsoft Office suite using the Windows OS.
