HR Business Partner United States

Conservation International is seeking an experience HR Generalist to serve as the HR Business Partner for designated business units in our Arlington, Virginia Headquarters office. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the HR Business Partner will provide full employee life-cycle advisory and consultation support. This includes, but is not limited to: employee relations, performance management, training and development, compensation, benefits and leave, and staffing. The position promotes, communicates and implements organizational-wide Human Resources initiatives and may assist in their development. The position may act as project manager for assigned HR initiatives and special projects. The HR Business Partner will serve as the designated back-up for his/her peer assigned to other designated business units.

Responsibilities

  • HR technical advisor and partner to respective business units, providing expert HR guidance through working knowledge of federal and state employment laws and organizational policies
  • Staffing and recruiting support to include review of job descriptions and advertisements, management of CI’s recruiting system, development of recruiting strategies, interview support, development of employment agreements and immigration processing as needed. Will also include technical assistance and management of CI’s recruiting system.
  • Employee relations support ranging from day to day routine performance management guidance to challenging conflicts and involuntary separations
  • Training and development co-lead for new hire orientation, benefits orientation and trainings for supervisors and staff, serving as subject matter expert on topics such as performance management, management best practices, and legalities of supervision
  • Provide guidance on compensation related issues, including the application of internal compensation policies and procedures and annual merit increase process
  • Support staff with benefit and leave related requests, including but not limited to: Open Enrollment, FMLA designation and counseling, STD/LTD and ADA considerations, unpaid leave administration and leave donation

Qualifications

Required

  • A bachelor's degree and five (5) years of Human Resources experience or any similar combination of education and experience.
  • Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines including compensation practices, performance management, federal and state respective employment laws.
  • Experience in delivering trainings and communicating concepts to multidisciplinary and diverse audience
  • Demonstrated success in areas of staffing, employee relations and HR operations
  • Superb interpersonal, problem-solving, conflict resolution and negotiation
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to develop strong trusting relationships in order to gain support and achieve results.
  • Demonstrated ability to be self directed, motivated and problem-solve.
  • Take initiative to identify and anticipate needs and make recommendations for implementation
  • Ability to work collaboratively with employees at all levels within the organization, as well as with multiple departments and with front-line supervisors/managers and senior management
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems

Preferred

  • Professional in Human Resources (PHR) or Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) certification
  • Working knowledge of US immigration law and work authorization acquisition
  • Non-profit experience
