Barrick Kanowna has a strong presence in the Eastern-Goldfields of Western Australia centred around the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The operations process 2 million tonnes of refractory and free milling ore per annum from three underground mines and open pit projects (commencing early 2009). Barrick Kanowna is one of the leading employers in the Goldfields and has a large exploration lease holding in the region.
Position Overview
Reporting to the IT Coordinator, Barrick Kanowna is looking for someone who can provide a high level of information technology support and advice to management and staff in the Barrick Kanowna region. The successful candidate will be able to work unsupervised and in a team environment.
This role involves a wide range of duties and would ideally suit an IT generalist with 3 or more years experience who wants to grow their technical skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
· Provide support and assistance for information technology networks, systems and equipment
  • Work as a member of the IT team to implement and maintain systems across the over an area that is geographically sparse.
  • Travelling to the various mine sites as necessary to resolve site specific issues.
  • Be part of an after hour on call roster.
  • Manage multiple VMware and Windows servers, to provide a high level of reliability and availability.
Experience and Requirements
· 3+ years experience within a similar role
· Familiar with working within the mining industry
· Experience with managing a Windows XP/7 environment.
  • Experience with Mining applications, the Microsoft Office suite and Exchange, Windows 2003/2008 server environments and Active Directory
  • Experience with Symantec BackupExec, SCM and VMware
· Strong verbal and written communication skills
· Great problem solving ability combined with good analytical skills
  • Good understanding of network technology.
· Able to liaison between technical and non-technical people
· Experienced with on-site as well as remote environments
This is a residential role based in Kalgoorlie, WA.
