Principal Duties

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the Department, the incumbent is to design, develop and implement WIPO’s strategy and initiatives for engagement with Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Industry Groups and in particular:
? to manage WIPO’s contacts, engagement and work with international and national NGOs and industry groups to increase awareness and understanding of WIPO’s work and objectives;
? to develop and manage consultation and communication mechanisms at the national and international levels, with civil society stakeholders and industry sector groups, which will include regular briefings, information sessions and other communication initiatives which would ensure effective information sharing and consultation with the aforementioned stakeholders;
? to support the work and initiatives of other Sectors in WIPO through networking and advocacy activities;
? to organize WIPO’s participation and contribution to important and relevant meetings organized by NGOs and industry groups;
? to organize, coordinate and facilitate contacts and cooperation between NGOs and industry groups with different Sectors of the WIPO Secretariat;
? to develop, manage and share relevant information concerning NGOs and industry groups and to ensure that such information is regularly updated in DERs intranet and internet pages;
? to supervise the staff of the Non-Governmental Organizations and Industry Relations Section and to manage its work and resources;
? to perform other duties as may be required.

Qualifications and experience required
? University degree in development studies, law, social sciences or international relations, or equivalent qualifications.
? At least twelve years of relevant experience in the field of international relations.
? Wide knowledge of the practices and procedures of the organizations of the United Nations system.
? Knowledge and experience in working with civil society and private sector associations would be an advantage.
? Good diplomatic skills and a proven ability to interact and manage relations.
? Excellent knowledge of English. Knowledge of another UN working language would be an advantage.
