Cullinan Diamond Mine (Pty) Ltd

Cullinan Diamond Mine, part of Petra Diamonds, is situated in the town of Cullinan, 30km east of Pretoria. The Mine is currently mining at a depth of 747 metres, using mechanised trackless block-cave mining.

Safety Officer

The successful candidate will apply, monitor and assist with the application and the management of Health and Safety control systems and procedures according to organisational and legislative requirements.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Advise on the Mine Health and Safety Act and Petra safety standards, identify health and safety issues, recommend solutions and monitor the implementation thereof
  • Assist in the evaluation of the effectiveness of the health and safety management programme and ensure adherence to programme goals and objectives
  • Investigate all serious and critical incidents and associated follow-ups with action strategies and assist with the implementation of plans to prevent similar occurrences
  • Compile Health and Safety reports to meet on-mine requirements
  • Conduct required health and safety audits and inspections
  • Assist with the maintenance of the health and safety risk management system according to organisational requirements
  • Monitor the legal compliance of training
  • Ensure adherence to deadlines
  • Work shifts and be on standby
  • Work according to the Mine’s Code of Practice, and report any observations of this not being done
  • Ensure personal and co-workers’ adherence to and compliance with security and the Company’s SHE objectives.

Requirements:

  • SHEMTRAC/SAMTRAC/COMSOC
  • A Grade 12
  • A valid public driver’s licence (Code EB)
  • Previous relevant experience in the Health and Safety discipline
  • Knowledge of underground workings will be beneficial
  • Computer literacy and working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the Windows System
  • Safety and risk management (including assessment and evaluation) skills
  • The ability to negotiate and influence behaviour
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation
  • Independence, self-motivation, proactive thinking and the ability to do own job planning
  • Sound verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills in English.
