Employability Program Coordinator

With funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the International Youth Foundation (IYF) is working in partnership with the Jordanian Ministry of Social Development (MOSD) to design and implement Youth: Work Jordan (YWJ) - a five year holistic youth development program to improve social services and protection for vulnerable populations, with an overarching focus on youth employability and civic engagement. YWJ will achieve this goal through the delivery of comprehensive community based activities to meet the needs of disadvantaged youth between 15 and 24 years of age that fall under four components: 1)Increased Youth Access to Market-Driven Life, Employability, and Entrepreneurial Skills Training; 2) Provision of Youth Friendly Services; 3)Expanded Civic Engagement of Youth; and 4) Policy Coordination.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support the Amman-based Field Manager in monitoring the quality of work of IYF’s community based sub-grantees (CBO) in three YWJ target communities, working with these CBOs through a co-implementation approach to ensure that grant deliverables are being met in a timely and quality manner; conduct regular site visits and provide feedback to the Field Manager on the timeliness and quality of program interventions.
  • Under the supervision of the Field Manager, support and work closely with the Employability Specialist to coordinate and implement YWJ’s employability strategy at the community level, working closely with YWJ’s community based partners through a co-implementation model to achieve YWJs’ employability program targets. Specifically, the Employability Program Coordinator will
  • Support to the Employability Specialist in the identification and
    cultivation of ongoing strategic partnerships with potential employers in their assigned communities and in updating the local labor market assessment and potential economic opportunities for youth at the local level. Maintain and manage YWJ’s employability log at the community level, sharing economic opportunities with local CBO partners, youth and parents.
  • Through regular and structured field visits provide coaching, technical support and capacity building trainings to CBO youth mentors on YWJ’s employability models, particularly in the area of labor market assessments; career guidance activities for youth; job placement strategies to effectively match and link youth to jobs; and case management of the youth during the job placement and post placement phases; and employer engagement.
  • Engage employers in YWJ’s community employability interventions, including community career guidance, the design of market driven training curricula, the identification of on-the-job training and internships opportunities and/or direct job placement opportunities for Youth: Work Jordan’s targeted youth.
  • Follow up and maintain cooperative relationships with YWJ employers to ensure strong pre & post-placement outcomes and high retention rates for youth placed in jobs through organizing roundtables and job fairs… etc
  • Work closely with community partners, as well as IYF Field staff where they are located to capture learnings, trends and barriers to successful employment across YWJ’s communities; Work closely with YWJ M&E and communications teams to capture best practices, highlight success stories and integrate M&E findings back into program implementation.
  • Support the coordination of YWJ training service provider activities under the direction of the Field Manager and working closely with IYF’s CBO partners to ensure timely organization and delivery of training programs; Follow up with CBO partners to ensure program quality and relevance of the training curricula.
  • Participate in developing the monthly and quarterly report and any other reports or updates as requested by the Field Manager and senior management.
    Supervisor
    The Employability Program Coordinator will be supervised by Youth: Work Jordan Field Manager in Amman – Jordan.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A Minimum of 1 year of experience working in workforce development, youth employment programs. Experience working on Public Private Partnerships is a plus.
  • Academic training or specialized coursework in employability or related areas is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of/experience with programs that support youth employment and/or social services (e.g. education, poverty alleviation) preferred.
  • Strong connections and working relationships with members of Jordan’s private sector, preferably in local communities and qualified industrial zones.
  • Experience working on USAID-funded programs in Jordan and/or the Middle East region is preferred.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and diplomacy in a multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Experience with USAID programs and systems/regulations preferred.
  • Oral and written fluency in English and Arabic.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and analytical skills.
  • Must be a self starter who takes initiative and is able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong computer skills in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Willingness to travel up to 70% of time within Jordan.
