Basic Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree OR Advanced Diploma in finance/accounting and 2 years of related work experience or equivalent combination.
2. Experience with GAAP and fund accounting principles, practices and regulations.
3. Experience using automated accounting systems.
4. Experience in MS Office (Word and Excel). Experience in database management and producing financial reports.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for supporting all areas of finance for the Tuungane Project in Western Tanzania, a joint project between three entities: The Nature Conservancy, Pathfinder International and the Frankfurt Zoological Society. Duties include accounts payable, project cost and revenue accounting and the preparation/processing of various accounting forms and reports such as journal entries and employee expense reports. S/he will assist in financial reconciliation, budget preparation and monitoring of project financial performance. S/he communicates quarterly and ad hoc reports and analysis to management, as needed. This position is also responsible for administering and managing the day-to-day office administration services and/or program support for the Tuungane Project’s Kigoma office. S/he may coordinate such activities as central administrative processes (facility management, telecommunications, general maintenance/repairs, central services, mailroom operations, central filing, telephone/public reception and/or printing) or maintaining office supplies, general purchasing requests, and general office duties. Provides guidance to project staff in satisfying the administrative requirements on projects/programs based on extensive knowledge of TNC policies and procedures. This position includes frequent interaction with all members within the organization as well as donors, vendors, and business relations.


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree or Advanced Diploma and 3-2 years of related work experience or equivalent combination.
• Knowledge of GAAP and understanding of the basic principles of fund accounting.
• May require working knowledge of grants accounting.
• Solid knowledge and experience using automated accounting systems e.g. ACCPAC
• Demonstrated experience in MS Office, Word, Excel. May require database management skills with ability to produce reports. Ability to use advanced computer functions including ability to navigate the Internet.
• Proven organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Decisive project management skills with the ability to plan and execute accordingly.
• Excellent organizational skills, including establishment of priorities and commitment to deadlines.
• Good oral and written communication skills.
• QuickBooks experience is a plus.
• May require fluency in foreign language(s) to support global operations. Specific language(s) may be preferred depending on operating unit.

• Analyze situations, evaluate alternatives and implement solutions.
• Duties may include work, which encompasses non-routine analysis, research, and follow through.
• Interpret guidelines and analyze factual information to adapt or modify processes in response to changing circumstances.

• Duties are preformed under minimal supervision.
• Demonstrate common sense, flexibility and teamwork.
• Work independently without the requirement for detailed management review of most work.

RESPONSIBILITY/OVERSIGHT –FINANCIAL & SUPERVISORY:
• No direct supervision of other staff but may work in a team to complete projects.
• Supervise no staff but may help plan and direct the work of volunteers or interns.
• May assist with program budget preparation and monitoring.

COMMUNICATIONS/INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:
• Work with and communicate with a wide range of people including vendors, the public, program leadership, donors, and others.
• Consistently demonstrate professional, positive, and approachable attitude/demeanor and discretion.
• Demonstrate sensitivity in handling confidential information.
• Function productively as a member or leader of a work team
• Provides a variety of information to staff and others to assist workflow throughout the organization.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
• Work requires only minor physical exertion and/or strain. Work environment involves only infrequent exposure to disagreeable elements.
