Head Miller & Milling Manager Conscript Africa - Zambia

Reporting to the General Manager (GM) and the Board of Directors (BoD); the Head Miller will be responsible for all facets regarding production, quality, maintenance, staffing and training of staff involved in the milling process.

Specifically the HM shall be responsible for the following:

Overview

ü To provide leadership and management to achieve productivity and quality in line with the mill’s capacity and goals.

ü Will need to be able to motivate and instruct employees, as well as police discipline when necessary.

ü Develop, formulate and implement company policies and programs to maintain and improve the competitive position and profitability of the mill.

ü Ensure targets are met safely and the work force is operating within statutory and company safety guidelines.

Policy and Reporting Controls

ü Develop and implement necessary internal controls and procedures.

ü Appraise operating results in terms of costs, budgets and operating policies.

ü Submit regular and timeous reports to assist in decision making.

ü Report defective machinery, unsatisfactory work conditions and potential risks to management.

ü Submit weekly management and operational reports to the BoD.

Ensure Financial Discipline

ü Develop and define staffing requirements.

ü Monitor performance against budget.

ü Ensure budget targets are met, revenue flows maximized and costs minimized.

Monitor Operational Activities

ü Set daily production and quality targets.

ü Verify and ensure products are being produced in line with customer’s requirements and standards.

ü Identify new opportunities in line with customer requirements.

ü Strengthen key relationships with clients.

ü Supervise personnel to maintain productivity, plant cleanliness and overall mill performance.

ü Maintain and improve production efficiencies, waste reduction and process improvements.

ü Develop Standard Operating Procedures and Production Manuals for mill processes and equipment.

ü Train staff to understand all policies for all procedures including quality, production, hygiene, security, company policies and safety standards.

Ensure sound corporate governance policies and practices

ü Ensure relevant statutory and other legislation is complied with.

ü Human Resources development is facilitated.

ü Succession planning is put in place.

ü Significant deviations or problems are reported to ensure that management and staff is kept aware of any potential risk.

Manage Relationships

ü Ensure effective formal and informal links with major customers and relevant stakeholders are established and maintained.

ü Delegate authority appropriately.

Desired Skills & Experience

Qualifications

ü At least three years verified experience in a modern mill facility.

ü Two years’ experience in a supervision and managerial role.

ü Excellent supervisory and team building skills.

ü Sound mechanical aptitude and strong mathematical skills.

ü Able to work with hand tools and be confident with making on going operational adjustments.

Company Description

Our client is a commercial maize milling company which mills, markets and distributes high quality mealie meal (maize flour), the staple food (assumed to be 70% of total diet) for Zambia’s strong urban population. The maize milling bi-product maize bran is being directly marketed to the growing stock feed producer market.
