The Global Health Fellows Program II (GHFP-II) is a five year cooperative agreement implemented and managed by the Public Health Institute in partnership with CDC Development Solutions and Management Systems International. GHFP-II is supported by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

GHFP-II’s goal is to improve the effectiveness of USAID health programs by developing and increasing the capacity of health professionals with tailored development opportunities. This is accomplished through the recruitment, placement and support of diverse health professionals at the junior, mid and senior levels, and professional development activities aimed to enhance the technical and leadership skills of global health professionals.

INTRODUCTION:

The Contraceptive Commodities Security and Logistics Intern will be assigned to the Contraceptive Security (CS) Team of the Commodities Security and Logistics Division (CSL) in the Bureau for Global Health’s Office of Population and Reproductive Health (PRH). The Commodities Security and Logistics Division is comprised of professionals with a wide range of technical expertise and experience, responsible for technical leadership and direction to mainstream contraceptive security as a core fundamental of Reproductive Health/Family Planning. The intern will primarily support the Contraceptive Security Team, including work with the USAID | DELIVER PROJECT, and may also carry out other Bureau-wide duties and collaborative research with other divisions within PRH. All work will be tailored to the Division’s context with the purpose of improving its approach to providing contraceptives, condoms and other essential health pharmaceuticals to developing country programs. S/he will work closely with the entire team, with the Division Chief serving as his/her onsite manager.

LEARNING OBJECTIVE:

Gaining a greater understanding about contraceptive security and logistics of public health commodities within the Agency.

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

• With guidance from the Onsite Manager (OSM) and CS Team, identify and develop a project in an area related to contraceptive security (policy, advocacy, and/or financing environment in developing economies) or related logistics and procurement topics in public and private commodity arena as related to USAID systems and needs. The specific project will address both current CSL Division needs and the interests/skills of the successful candidate

• Document specific activities and approaches used to address improvements in the policy/advocacy/financing environment or related logistics and procurement practices

• Produce briefing materials (written summary and slide sets) related to references, approach, and lessons learned

QUALIFICATIONS:

The successful applicant will be a graduate of, or enrolled in, a graduate program related to public health, public administration, business, supply chain, or pharmaceuticals.

Qualified candidates will have strong web-based research skills, organizational and planning skills, familiarity with Microsoft Office applications, and oral and written communication skills.

US Citizenship Required.
