Safety and Emergency Response Superintendent -Bulyanhulu Gold Mine

Reporting to the OHS Manager we seek to appoint an Emergency Response Superintendent at our Bulyanhulu gold mining operation.

The overall position objective is to provide emergency response leadership and advice to the Bulyanhulu Gold mine operations so that company objectives are met at the required work performance standard and in accordance with Barrick rules, regulations, standard operating procedures, behaviours and values as well as applicable legislation.

KEY RESULT AREAS/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Analyse all Tanzanian legal requirements pertaining to aerodrome, safety & emergency response management and document its implications and requirements for Bulyanhulu and deliver a report to Management stipulating deviations to be addressed , budgets to be approved and emergency response equipment and stock to be purchased
• Audit , document , action and institute functional requirements for the safe operation of the aerodrome in accordance with the Tanzanian Civil Aviation Authority (TCAA)
• Audit , document , action and institute functional requirements for the effective operation of the safety & emergency response teams at Bulyanhulu in accordance with the Tanzanian Mining Act as well as Barrick Gold Corporation standard operating policies and procedures
• Audit , document , action and institute functional training and requirements of emergency response teams and certify emergency response members and teams competent and ready for emergency events
• Certify compliance with company Emergency Response policies, procedures and ensure relevant Tanzanian regulations are adhered to and reviewed according to Barrick guidelines.
• Establish formal communication between management , supervisors , mine captains and emergency response members , minute meetings and update all relevant parties on emergency response developments , training dates, technological changes and legal requirements
• Update the ER plan and crisis management documentation and ensure it is kept up to date and reviewed annually.
• Ensure that all regulatory communications with the inspector are adhered to as per regulation and that all the necessary paperwork is kept on file.

PROFESSIONAL SKILLS

Education Requirements:

• Certificate/Diploma in Emergency Management
• Relevant training certification to deliver and present training courses.

Experience Requirements:

• Ten years relevant experience
• Detail knowledge and exposure to safety and emergency management including supervisory , technical , operational and safety knowledge
• Detail knowledge of the application of safety and emergency response processes and standards in underground and surface mining operations as well as aerodrome operations
• Detail exposure to fire and rescue operations
• Exposure to the challenges of operating in remote sites and in particular developing countries
• Experience in facilitating training courses, BG4, BA open circuit, use of Fire truck, lifter bags, vehicle extrication
• Relevant experience in presenting training courses such as incident investigations and risk management.
• Experienced in guidance and support of employees at all levels of the organization to identify potential safety issues and emergency response issues and the development of recommendations and implementation thereof.
• Significant experience in coaching, mentoring and management of emergency response personnel
• Significant experience in dealing with all aspects of safety , emergency response and risk management
• Sound interpersonal and management skills with the ability to lead and motivate a small team of employees to achieve safety targets
