School Administration Officer J/P Haitian Relief Organization

J/P HRO is a non-profit organization dedicated to help lift the nation of Haiti out of the rubble and give the Haitian people a better life, is seeking experienced professionals for several exciting opportunities as part of its response to the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

Description:
The administration Officer will work in close collaboration with the board of Delmas 32 schools, and Ecole De L’Espoir in PVC camp. S/he will be tasked to build an infrastructure to support those schools in terms of ensuring the most effective and efficient use of resources by helping: 1) manage the administrative and financial functions, physical resources and assets; 2) setting timely strategic advice and information to the Administration Leadership Team; and 3) manage non-teaching staff who contributes to the achievement of the school’s strategic plan and educational outcomes of students. The administration Officer will also participate in partnership creation with high resource schools and agencies to help those schools access knowledge and materials/equipment they lack.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct needs assessments, assist the school Alliance with attaining resources that fit their needs when required and follow up on the intervention and ensure a social supportive network to the schools;• Assist the school board in developing the strategic planning, policy and decision making processes of the school by providing expertise and high level advice on financial, administrative, physical resource and human resource matters, including: assisting with the development of school priorities, policy and procedures; and undertaking special projects/research to provide information.
• Contribute to the effective operation of the schools in the D32 Alliance by advising on managing, coordinating and controlling financial and administrative functions;• Assist staff to effectively manage their area of responsibility by providing high level advice on matters pertaining to human resources, bookkeeping, facilities, record keeping, and building development and maintenance, etc.;
• Provide guidance about making extensive liaison with other schools and agencies, and maintaining best practice in managing funds and procurement rules, practices and procedures.• Provide suggestions and arrange for training to improve skills and abilities of school board and staff if necessary according to their needs.• Help maintain the care, general well-being and safety of all students by monitoring student behavior and taking appropriate action in accordance with child protection policies and procedures.• Carry out other duties as assigned by his/her line management.

Qualifications and Experience:
1. Bachelor’s degree in school administration, international development or a related field (required); Masters (preferred)
2. Experience in education (required)
3. Experience in school management and complex projects (desirable)
4. Familiarity with Haitian education system and governmental infrastructures (desirable)
5. Excellent communication and leadership skills
6. Proven record of working with host governments, international donors and academic institutions (desirable)
7. Proven record of working with children and young and Police background (required)

Skills: 1. Fluency in written and oral Creole and French (required), English (a definite asset) 2. Proficiency with Internet, Excel, Microsoft Word, and other office applications 3. Good organizational skills 4. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills required
