Senior Manager for Operations , Washington, DC

Position Summary
The Senior Manager for Operations will oversee and manage Freedom House's day-to-day operation functions in our field offices and US-based offices (DC and NY). The position is based in Washington DC and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

Some Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the organization’s third party IT vendor for network-related issues
  • Oversee the technical management of the website, ensuring functionality and future development
  • Oversee the efficient and professional functioning of the day-to-day office operations (DC and NY) including front office and back-of-the-house functions
  • Oversee procurement, leasing and proper inventory of supplies, office equipment (including computers), capital purchases such as furniture, appliances, etc.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all building and landlord-related issues
  • Ensure operational policies and procedures are up to date and communicated to staff
  • Coordinate Freedom House’s “knowledge management” infrastructure, ensuring proper and accurate documentation from all departments and data centralization
  • Assist with field office compliance issues relating to operations infrastructure, office openings and closings, and field office policies and procedures
  • Attend programmatic back-stopping meetings and address operational issues
  • Research country registration regulations and procedures
  • Maintain field office contracts and leases
  • Assist in managing travel and field office security and protocols
  • Assist in the assessment for and set-up and break-down of field offices
  • Oversee and ensure the professional appearance, scheduling and functioning of the DC office in-house conference facilities and A/V equipment
  • Coordinate, create and manage annual budgets for operations division, including ensuring appropriate and timely payment and file keeping to contractors and service providers
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field, Master’s degree strongly preferred
  • 8-10 years directly related experience, with at least 2 years managing IT
  • 2 years of experience managing operations in a global NGO strongly preferred
  • Strong ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Expert project management skills from conception through implementation, and close-out
  • Strong ability to maintain a positive demeanor and succeed in a growing organization
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and strong ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities in multiple locations
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to successfully work with contacts and stakeholders in diverse and cross-cultural environments, with sensitivity and a high degree of courtesy
  • Superb ability to apply good judgment in dealing with contacts, and problem resolution
  • Strong ability to persuade and facilitate cooperation between people with divergent views
  • Attention to detail, ability to multi task and produce error-free work on deadline
  • Knowledge and understanding of human rights and democracy issues around the world
