South Sudan Country Director Windle Trust International

Background:

Windle Trust International (WTI) has over 30 years’ experience in promoting and investing in the education and training of refugees, the displaced and other communities emerging from conflict, in order to promote peaceful development in Eastern and Central Africa.
WTI aims to equip talented young Africans to meet the challenges of development in their own countries and train future leaders. The Trust’s activities include undergraduate and postgraduate scholarships in Africa and in the UK, and intensive English programmes to enable refugees and others caught up in the region’s conflicts to access training, employment and community leadership roles. In South Sudan, WTI has a particular focus on programmes to upgrade English language for teachers and other professionals.
WTI has offices in the UK, South Sudan and Sudan and works through partner Windle Trusts in Kenya and Uganda.
Role:
We have an exciting and challenging role for a highly motivated and experienced Country Director, based in Juba, to lead the South Sudan team and develop programmes and new opportunities.
You will contribute to building the capacity of the education sector and developing professional skills and leadership for South Sudan, working in partnership with communities, government, international agencies and NGOs.
Job Responsibilities:
The Country Director will be responsible for budgets of around £1.5million and will manage four key senior operational staff based in Juba and through them around 150 staff throughout South Sudan.

You will have a lead role in
· Shaping WTI’s response to the enormous need for the development of professional skills and training in South Sudan.

· Representing WTI and maintaining and developing WTI’s links with international agencies, donors, NGOs, and government and civil society organizations to monitor and identify how best to respond to the education and training needs of conflict affected communities in South Sudan

· Leading and developing significant fundraising from donors in South Sudan

· Preparing strategic and annual plans.

· Overseeing the effective management of WTI’s Juba office in South Sudan, personnel and assets, ensuring compliance with legal requirements and WTI policies.

· Coordinating programme planning, budgeting, and delivery, monitoring and evaluation, and reporting.

· Promoting a supportive team ethos, and good communication and information sharing among staff in South Sudan and with other Windle teams in East Africa and the UK.

Person Specification and Requirements:
Essential
  • A passion for WTI’s mission and values
  • Exceptional inter-personal, public relations and networking skills to promote WTI in South Sudan
  • Strategic thinker able to inspire and motivate others
  • A high level of personal and professional integrity
  • Four years’ experience managing a similar scale of programme in Africa for an international NGO
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Excellent communicator at all levels; fluent written and spoken English
  • Proven ability in programme development and management, preparing and controlling budgets and managing contracts
  • Degree in a relevant field
  • Excellent computer literacy
The successful candidate will thrive in an environment with many operational and cross-cultural challenges; and will enjoy working closely with other colleagues in a small busy team.
Desirable
  • Experience of working in South Sudan or another country emerging from conflict
  • Experience in the field of education and/or English language training
  • A relevant higher degree
  • Knowledge of Arabia
