Location: WWF-Thailand Office, Bangkok.

Background

WWF has a long established presence in the Mekong region, starting in Vietnam in 1990. Since then, WWF operations have grown to four Country offices based in Cambodia (Phnom Penh), Laos (Vientiane), Thailand (Bangkok) & Vietnam (Hanoi), including a Regional team in the Hanoi, Vientiane and Bangkok offices. The ‘Greater Mekong Programme Office’ was officially formed in November 2005 merging WWF Indochina (Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam) and WWF Thailand. In order to be relevant with partners at provincial levels and deliver conservation results in landscapes, GMPO has also developed 20 field offices across the 4 countries and 6 landscapes.

Following a strong track record of conservation delivery over the last 20 years, WWF has established both the credibility and presence to deliver conservation impact at all levels from provincial, to national to regional.

WWF Greater Mekong Programme Office has embarked on new strategic plan FY11-FY15. The new strategic plan outlines changes in the way WWF GMPO operates, both in conservation and operation aspects.

I. Major Function

Coordinate and execution of WWF-Thailand’s Illegal Wildlife Trade campaign, in conjunction with relevant WWF national, regional and international programmes, offices and campaign partners.

II. Major Responsibilities

• Based on current campaign concepts, coordinate the development and implementation of WWF-Thailand’s Illegal Wildlife Trade campaign strategy, with work plans and interim milestones, to achieve set objectives.

• Use best practices, methodologies and procedures to ensure the effectiveness of the campaign

• Maintain a working knowledge of political, legislative, environmental, social and economic frameworks relevant to the campaign, and engage in critical national political and other fora relevant to the campaign.

• Work with the in-house campaign advisory staff that include DTL Landscape Manager, Elephant Project Manager and Policy Coordinator - and manage the campaign team, and help ensure effective interaction engagement, and task management within and among the team, and between the team and the greater WWF network.

• Build alliances and/or support relationships with relevant groups, organizations, academic and professional groups, NGOs and others in the region as identified in strategic planning.

• Develop effective working relationships within the WWF network, with a focus on partners and alliances that can amplify WWF’s campaigns and activate target audiences.

• Support campaign communications and fundraising activities, in coordination with the campaign communicator and relevant Fundraising & Marketing Departments.

• Act as spokesperson for the campaign within Thailand.

• Regularly report on progress of the campaign to in-house campaign advisory staff, the line manager, global campaign team and wider WWF Network, and lead the charge for overcoming obstacles to ensure goals and objectives are met.

• Develop an exit strategy for the close of the campaign, ensuring continuation of WWF work on the subject thereafter.

• Organize and oversee the work of short-term contractors where appropriate.

• Oversee and manage the overall budget, ensuring that expenditures do not exceed available funds.

• Undertake other tasks as determined by the line manager.

IV. Requirements

  1. Education and Qualifications

• Degree in communications media, marketing or related subject

  1. Knowledge

• Prior knowledge of WWF's organizational structure, goals, policies and activities is a distinct advantage

• Adheres to WWF’s values, which are: Engaging, Optimistic, Determined, Knowledgeable.

• Knowledge of environmental issues and the politics influencing public and private institutions both nationally and internationally to understand how they interact and influence each other, and the public;

  1. Experience

• At least five years proven experience devising, formulating and implementing campaign strategies within a national, international or high-profile organization;

• Proven experience as a successful campaign leader, preferably but not necessarily in the not-for-profit sector;

• Experience in policy-led campaigns, targeting government officials;

• Experience in multi-disciplinary teams and in building consensus, optimism and confidence in the face of challenges and pressure;

• Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex issues in a clear manner to a wide variety of audiences across diverse channels (online, TV, print, radio, etc.)

• Expertise in campaigning techniques, policies, strategies, target audience analysis, structure and impact;

• Long-term planning and analytical skills, as well as demonstrated ability to multi-task and work effectively to tight deadlines without compromising quality;

• Strong interpersonal and partnership development skills, and the ability to develop relationships with a wide range of audiences;
