Expert (m/f) for civil engineering

Zwedru, Liberia

The post is to be filled as soon as possible, with an initial term ending 28 February 2014. The field location is Zwedru in South-East Liberia. Travel to the project regions will be required.

Objectives and responsibilities of the position

Our project aims to improve the transportation infrastructure in the region. As a expert (m/f) for civil engineering, you will be responsible for the planning and building of bridges and roads, and supervising the project activities in the project region.

Your most important duties are as follows:

• Training and instructing local project staff
• Monitoring of construction activities and corresponding reporting activities
• Development of a system for the material supply and securing a smooth process in coordination with the logistics coordinator
• Development of a handbook for road maintenance
• Implementation of road rehabilitation measures

Your qualifications will include:

• a university or polytechnic degree in the field of civil engineering, or comparable completed training
• ideally several years' experience of carrying out international (aid) agency projects - preferably in the region
• coordination and organisational skills, even under a high workload and difficult lo-cal conditions
• sound knowledge of AutoCAD and the preparation of "bills of quantities"
• ability to communicate and work in a team
• a good command of English
