Labor market expert - wage employment Pakistan
Chemonics seeks a labor market expert focusing on wage employment for the ongoing USAID-funded Firms project in Pakistan, which will implement a workforce development program in three targeted locations of Karachi: Sultanabad, Lyrai, and Korangi. The project will provide skills development opportunities to youth that can help them secure employment in various sectors facing labor shortages. The labor market expert will perform a demand-side analysis, including primary and secondary research, of wage employment opportunities available to youth in major industrial sectors as well as the service sector of Karachi. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.
Responsibilities include:
- Read necessary USAID Firms project reports, sector studies, and USAID Job Project Reports
- Estimate the employment opportunities for male and female youth in at least 10 major industrial/business sectors of Karachi such as fisheries, leather, garment and textile, and marble and granite
- Arrange and conduct focus group discussions, at least one for each sector, with sector stakeholders to discuss issues of employment and workforce development opportunities
- Explore growing trends in service sectors and identify emerging employment opportunities in various areas
- Interact with the vocational training expert to share data and information
- Contribute to the project deliverables addressing relevant demand-side aspects of employment and wage employment opportunities available for male and female youth
- Bachelor's degree in engineering required; advanced degree in business administration, development economics, or social science preferred
- Minimum 10 years of progressive professional experience related to sector development or labor market research
- Understanding of labor market and various business and service sectors
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- English fluency required
