Research Intern - International Security

Research Intern - We are looking for motivated, well-informed interns with excellent writing skills and a background in international security. The Burke Chair in Strategy at CSIS produces high-quality military/political analysis of events in the Middle East, Afghanistan/Pakistan, Asia, and on the US defense Budget. We are currently focused on the conflict in Afghanistan/Pakistan, the ongoing competition between Iran and the US, the situation in Iraq, the continuing instability in the MENA region - including Syria - and the US defense budget. Burke Chair research interns are our main researchers - administrative duties are minimal. You will essentially research and write all day everyday. Projects vary but usually each intern is given the lead on one of these major projects. You will be working with Dr. Anthony Cordesman on a daily basis. Most interns have an opportunity to publish their work online.

Qualifications

You must have absolutely excellent writing skills - PLEASE DO NOT APPLY IF YOU ARE NOT COMPLETELY FLUENT IN WRITTEN AND SPOKEN ENGLISH. You must be able to handle a very high workload of research and writing, producing a great deal of high-quality written work. You must be able to work independantly, with little supervision on a daily basis. Full-time interns are preferred, but part-time is acceptable, provided you can handle the workload. A military background or experience in military analysis is a plus. An MA/PhD in a relevant field is preferred.

We are hiring for 2 positions. The internship lasts from early september to late december.
