Assmang Group STANDARDS SUPERINTENDENT

Minimum requirements: • Grade 12/Standard 10 Certificate • Chamber of Mines Strata Control Certificate • Should be undertaking the COM Rock Engineering ticket and have passed at least one theory paper • Qualifications in Mining Engineering/Geology/Science-related discipline will be advantageous • Minimum of 5 years’ Strata Control and/or Rock Engineering experience in an Underground Mine • Strong geological, mining and rock engineering background • Code B/EB driver’s licence • Highly computer literate and familiar with specialised software, eg Unwedge or Map3D • Membership to professional body (SANIRE) • Be team oriented with the ability to effectively communicate at all levels.


Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: • Being overall responsible for the day-to-day running of the Mine Rock Engineering functions • Assisting the consultant Rock Engineer in data gathering, design, implementation and review of underground support standards • Developing and continuously reviewing the Mine’s Rock Engineering systems, standards and procedures • Coordinating the compilation and maintenance of a mandatory Code of Practice to combat rock burst and rock falls • Planning and managing ground monitoring instrumentation • Planning, coordinating and controlling quality on secondary support • Participating in ground-related incident or accident investigations • Participating and giving input in production planning and review meetings • Managing the SHERQ objectives of the Rock Engineering section • Training, coaching and mentoring subordinates • Geotechnical logging of surface and underground drill core • Performing ad hoc duties, any other reasonable duties as and when requested from time to time.
