The ideal candidate will meet the following requirements:
• A degree or diploma specialising in safety, engineering or mining is essential
• An in-depth understanding of relevant safety legislation
• Good knowledge of work-related hazards and associated risks is essential
• Computer literacy in MS Office applications
• At least 5 years’ experience as a Safety Official is essential of which 2 years must have been contractor-related
• Knowledge of mining processes is essential
• A good knowledge of Impala standards and procedures, Risk Management Framework, SHEQ policies and Codes of Practice
• Good communication skills are essential.
• A valid Blasting Certificate would be an advantage, as would a good knowledge of Industry standards and procedures, Risk Management Framework, SHEQ policies and Codes of Practice.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
• Promoting an effective culture on all the group’sSouth African capital mining projects and exploration activities
• Providing a health and safety service to the group’s Project General Managers
• Compiling and managing budgets
• Developing safety talent
• Providing meaningful reports to Senior and Executive Management
• Leading, ensuring compliance with and coordinating the safety efforts of contracting companies
• Coordinating and analysing measurements of compliance with the appropriate legislation
• Facilitating and managing group safety and health audits on capital mining projects and exploration sites and recommending appropriate remedial action to eliminate serious incidents
• Conducting desktop pre-audits on successful contract tender companies
• Managing and analysing safety data, information and statistics
• Managing compensation reporting and compliance
• Facilitating, analysing and coordinating Root Cause Analysis of all serious incidents and
ensuring the implementation of remedial actions to prevent future accidents
• Determining risk exposure and formulating management action plans to mitigate these risks
• Appropriately and continuously communicating with stakeholders
• Being involved in the development of group safety standards and procedures
