City of Westminster Lord Mayor’s Private Secretary

Lord Mayor’s Private Secretary
c.£50,000
Westminster

Articulate, highly organised and politically aware, you’ll be key to the Lord Mayor’s success.

The Lord Mayor is responsible for promoting the City of Westminster’s policies, programmes and strategic aims, through a combination of visits, meetings and hospitality. A typical term for the Lord Mayor will involve attendance at over 1,000 events and engagements. Clearly, good organisation is crucial.

As the Lord Mayor’s Private Secretary, you will lead the Lord Mayor’s Office (LMO) which is responsible for co-ordinating all activities. It’s a critical supporting role where you will be overseeing events, making sure protocol is followed and be involved in writing speeches and letters. Under your leadership, the LMO will run like clockwork, managing a complex diary so that the Lord Mayor has a successful year in office.

Your role will involve close contact with senior internal figures, as well as your LMO team and a wide range of people outside the organisation. It’s therefore vital that you are diplomatic, articulate and politically sensitive. You must understand the ceremonial elements of the Lord Mayor’s role and how a local authority operates. Plus you’ll need experience of managing a high-profile establishment and providing the highest standards of administration and organisation. With this background, you’ll be capable of handling budgets, staff and projects, as well as change, performance and a demanding workload. Degree-educated (or equivalent) and full of business acumen, you’ll have the credibility to inspire trust and respect at all levels.

Closing date: 12th October 2012.
