Environmental Science Teacher - New York, United States

We are looking for a temporary leave replacement teacher for our 9th grade course, Citizenship and Sustainability. Citizenship and Sustainability is a hybrid class, combining Participation in Government and Earth/Environmental sciences. The students study various topics and themes related to environmental justice issues at the local, state and national level, through the lenses of science and democratic citizenship. Ultimately, they collaborate on thinking about and identifying solutions to propose. For instance, last year, in their water unit, they wrote and mailed off letters to our state assembly arguing against the proposal for hydrofracking in New York State.

Ideally, the leave replacement teacher would begin in September to co-teach with the lead teacher so as to develop, a good relationship with the students, develop an understanding of the curriculum, and be ready to lead when the teacher goes out on maternity leave in late October. The position would either end in January after the fall term, or, depending on performance and need, could lead to a full-time position.

Please send a cover letter stating your interest, your resume and three lesson plan samples for consideration to hiring@uagreencareers.org
