Knowledge for Health Project Director - Baltimore, Maryland, USA

The Knowledge for Health (K4Health) Project Director (PDD) will serve as the leader of the project's executive team and the leader of Knowledge Management initiatives at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Communication Programs (JHU·CCP). The Project Director leads and manages the K4Health Project and is one of three key positions approved by USAID. Serves as a knowledge management expert and, based on research and experience, provides evolving guidelines for web content and knowledge exchange services. Responsible for ensuring the cohesiveness of the internal operations of the project, including financial and operational oversight. Serves as the primary interlocutor with USAID related to the K4Health project. Ensures close collaboration between all PR groups and inspires a cohesive team approach while encouraging staff development. Guarantees efficiency and high quality performance of the project. Contributes to continuing development of the K4Health Project. Assures optimal quality of K4Health products, services, and deliverables. Provides leadership on the project’s financial accountability. Serves on the Leadership and Program Teams of CCP and leverages other programs to advance K4Health objectives, and ensures diffusion of K4Health approaches and technologies throughout CCP programs. Contributes to relationships of K4Health with other organizations through technical assistance on knowledge management. Assists the Deputy Director and PR leaders with developing K4Health’s collaborating partner network in the US and in priority countries. Assists supervisors with delegating, assigning work, and encouraging creativity of staff and development of new skills. Works closely with the new CCP Director of ICT and Innovation. The Director directly supervises several members of the K4Health Management Team: Deputy Director, PR 3 (Internet and mobile technology development), Operations Manager, and Finance Manager.

Master's Degree in related field required, preferably public health, development, health communications, or a knowledge management related discipline. Ten years related experience required. Strong background in knowledge management, technology development and innovation, managing teams of developers and outside technology companies. Background in new media, social networking, and mobile content delivery. Strong leadership and management experience, with excellent facilitation skills and teamwork. Ability to operate at conceptual level as well as practical program/project management experience. Experience as a Project Director or Deputy Director. Professional residence in a developing country with long-term residential work experience in Africa highly desirable. Solid experience working with international projects in public health. Must have demonstrated field experience and leadership skills. Expert knowledge and extensive experience in management of health communication, knowledge management, and social networking projects. Demonstrated leadership, management, supervisory, and strategic planning skills in library and reference service, editorial, Knowledge Management, and/or communication projects. Expertise in family planning, reproductive health, HIV/AIDS and related issues. Additional relevant experience and/or training may substitute for some education.
