People in Need VOLUNTEERs in Congo

People in Need (PIN) has been working in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of Congo, since 2009 (for more details seewww.peopleinneed.cz). In response to the immediate needs in a post-conflict environment, PIN began by implementing programmes focusing on access to primary health care, improving access to and quality of primary education, providing support to victims of sexual violence and assisting people in meeting their basic needs via livelihoods and water and sanitation interventions. Currently, PIN´s work is shifting from emergency and recovery to identifying and implementing more sustainable solutions. PIN is present in South Kivu Province, with main office in Bukavu.

Location: Bukavu, South Kivu Starting date: September/October 2012 Duration: 5 months minimum with possibility of extension

The Volunteer will: • Support Head of Programmes (HoP) in field monitoring of projects (health, education, protection) including collection of data and their compilation and analysis • Support HoP and Programme Officers in reporting to donors • Support HoP and Programme Officers in management of projects • Provide support in administrative and logistical issues related to projects • Provide Financial Officer (FO) with support in verification of expenditures • Build capacities of local programme staff

Key requirements: • Experience with humanitarian and/or development projects • Knowledge of the aid system • Knowledge of project cycle management • Proven experience in reporting and monitoring • Fluency in written and spoken English and French (preferably also in Czech) • Communication skills • Developed ability to work in a team • Sensitivity to and respect for the local environment and people • Willingness to travel to remote areas and ability to work there independently • Dedication to work in the sector of humanitarian and development assistance • Track record of travelling to / living in developing countries

People in Need offers: • Work within a motivated and professional team • Work experience with professional and flexible NGO, the largest one in Central-Eastern Europe • Accommodation and local transport costs covered • Covering costs of the return flight (if the contract is longer than 10 months than 2 flights), visa, vaccination • 15 USD per diem for each day spent at the mission • Medical helpdesk (in Czech Republic, provided in English) • Travel insurance (covers the health care incl. the repatriation) • Introduction and training in Prague
