Photography services for the Second Governor’s Forum

UNDP is looking to engage the services of a photographer for five days: 15-20 October (inclusive) to take pictures at the Second Governor’s Forum to be held in Juba, South Sudan. The photographs must be high resolution professional products that can be used in a variety of media and communications materials and platforms. All the photographs must be supplied by 25 October 2012. Photographers should supply a daily rate that will be applied for any extensions or reductions in time spent on the job.
Duration of the Consultancy: 9 working days
  • 1 day preparation
  • 5 working days photographing the Forum event
  • 3 days for editing

Duties and Responsibilities

Deliverables required?:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Communication Unit, the photographer shall provide the following deliverables:
  • A minimum of 12 publishable photographs (6 from the podium and 6 from the audience) for the opening and closing ceremony each. (Total photographs= 32 )
  •  A minimum of five photographs for each of the VIPs (e.g. the President, Deputy President, the Speaker of the National Assembly); and three photographs of each speaker for other speakers; and six photographs of audiences for each session.
  • Additional photographs such as buildings (Legislative Assembly building, at least 5 photographs) or any other activities.
  • All photography should be digital, using professional quality equipment. It is expected that the photographer will use a digital SLR camera with a minimum of 10 megapixels and high quality lenses; a separate, high quality flash unit is required for interiors. ?Final, high-resolution images and captions are required to be delivered electronically within 5 working days of return to the point of origin. We seek high resolution images suitable for high resolution printing.
Terms of use:
UNDP requires the following terms of use:?
  • Unlimited use of all photographs supplied.
  • Unlimited storage of the photographs by UNDP.
  • Rights to transfer the photographs to third parties for their use.
Once contracted, UNDP grants the photographer the right to:?
  • Retain copies of the photographs for personal use (for example, in their portfolio)
  • Assert their moral right to be identified as the author of the photographs.
FOR CONTRACTED PHOTOGRAPHER(S) ONLY, UNDP will provide the following:?
  • Letter(s) of introduction to support the photographer(s) obtaining travel authorization to the targeted areas.
  • UNDP will provide local transport or pay reasonable costs for in-country transport where needed, including the use of a UN vehicle and driver if required and available.
  • UNDP will endeavour to provide the photographer(s) with support for local logistics, including identifying and booking hotels as needed.
  • UNDP will provide contact information for local representatives and/or the people likely to feature in photographs, plus a description of the underlying project and UNDP’s interest.

Competencies

  • Ability to work in multi-disciplinary and multicultural teams is essential.
  • Experience in post conflict countries is an asset.
  • The photographer must observe Minimum Operational Security Standards (MOSS) as communicated by the United Nations for the location(s) visited. 
  • Photography must be limited to the subjects, people, infrastructure and other elements agreed with UNDP.
  • The photographer(s) must be mindful of local sensitivities. In many locations it is prohibited to photograph military or government installations such as airports and the photographer(s) must take care to observe these limitations and comply with local authorities where necessary.
  • No photographer(s) should incur expenses without express authorization from UNDP. UNDP will not be responsible for penalties and charges incurred without authorization.
  • Working knowledge of protocols, particularly related to working for, and with, officials and leaders at the highest levels of government.

Required Skills and Experience

Education:
  • The candidates should have a university degree in fine arts/photography and must have a portfolio of their work ready for examination.
Experience:
  • Up to 5 years experience. Overseas experience photographing development work would be an added advantage.
  • Experience in using MS Office applications – particularly Excel and Word.
