Background / General description:
IFC seeks to deepen its SME banking industry expertise on the investment side with more resources, both to meet increasing demand and increasingly demanding requirements. Thus, IFC seeks to hire 2 Banking Specialists (Investments) based in Istanbul and Mexico City. These Banking Specialists belong to a small global group in the Global Financial Markets department, and report primarily to the Head of Banking but relates on a day to day basis more directly with the regional Financial Markets Managers.

Typically, the Banking Specialist is a key participant in investment appraisals including loan portfolio reviews, but are increasingly getting involved in, and expected to contribute to (i) origination of new clients and transactions, (ii) portfolio work of existing exposures, (iii) regional strategies in the financial markets area, and (iv) global knowledge development and dissemination. The role requires considerable travel, both within the region and globally.

The ideal candidate has considerable operational experience in banking, at senior level, in various businesses and functions, and in several countries in the region. A typical candidate has managed several banking businesses, has considerable credit and treasury experiences, and combines strategic business acumen and deal making with strong operational hands-on skills.

Duties and Accountabilities:
Business Accountabilities: Supporting the regional financial markets managers (New Business and Portfolio) in

• Implementation of regional industry strategy for IFC's investment services (IS) and for delivering on both business targets and development outcomes;

• Developing regional industry strategy and resource needs for IFC's IS in the Region

• For each priority target and existing client in the Industry in the Region,

develop client strategy (with relevant Country Manager and Relationship Manager)

• Support business development for the New Business Manager in the Region;

• Decision-making authority for new investments, as per approved

delegated authority framework;

• In addition, support Portfolio Manager to ensure high quality, performance

and compliance of industry portfolio in the region, and with Country Manager to support business development efforts.

• Disseminate IFC's Industry lessons and experience in region, contribute

to global knowledge bank for Industry;

• Moreover, each Banking Specialist is expected to work approximately 20% outside of his/her main geographic area of responsibility

Resource Management Accountabilities: Support the regional financial

markets managers to

• Recruit, lead and manage an integrated team of regional staff;

• Mentor and develop staff in region mapped to the Industry and or global

practice group;

• Develop IFC's brand in region, building on IFC's global brand and overall

communications strategy;

• Reporting relationships: Primary reporting to Head of Banking in the Global Financial Markets department, and secondary reporting to financial markets managers in the respective region. In addition, Banking Specialiss prepare performance evaluation reviews and provide feedback for regional industry staff



Relationship Management Accountabilities: Support regional financial markets manager, global financial markets managers, and equity managers to

• Manage relationships with industry clients in region, in coordination with

Global Industry Managers, Head of Banking, and Country Managers; ensure that client needs

are met promptly and proactively;

• Foster relationships with industry advisory staff, micro financie specialists, and World Bank Group counterparts in

Region;

• Collaborate with Credit to identify and manage industry risks in Region.
Selection Criteria:
• A Master's degree or equivalent professional qualification in finance or business and a minimum of 15 years relevant operational private sector banking experience;

• Ability to represent IFC externally and to develop and manage relationships with clients, government, media, donors, and other stakeholders;

• Strong sense of service to clients and demonstrated business development aptitude. Proven success in developing client relationships and executing quality investments;

• Ability to work in the matrix as an integral part of the Regional and Industry Department, and deliver high quality work within deadlines to meet team objectives;

• Ability to collaborate closely with World Bank and other MFIs, financing institutions and banks;

• Good 'deal sense' based on demonstrated strong analytical skills and sound business judgment;

• Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenges the status quo in order to build the business;

• Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback; new ideas and ability to guide staff to solutions to problems;

• Strong written and verbal communications skills;

• Recognized as a team player and leader, ability to manage and resolve conflict;
