Psychosocial Support and Child Protection Project Coordinator - Misrata, Libya

The conflict in Libya sparked by anti-Government protests resulted in heavy fighting between government and opposition forces in Misrata and surrounding areas causing a large number of civilian casualties, internally displaced persons and destroyed infrastructure. While many relief efforts focused on survival needs (shelter, food, water, health care and sanitation) physical aid alone cannot address children’s ‘invisible wounds’ and the many psychosocial impacts of war. The widespread presence of Explosive Remnants of War (ERW) remains a clear danger to the city’s population.

Initial assessments indicate that there is limited capacity and expertise in Libya on child protection in emergencies including psychosocial support services.
