Independent Assessors
(3-year Service Provider Agreement)

The Tourism Grading Council of South Africa (TGCSA), a business unit of South African Tourism, is a dynamic organisation responsible for the quality grading of tourism accommodation products against best practice international quality control standards.

The TGCSA wishes to extend this business opportunity for Independent Assessors to join its dynamic team, taking the integrity, professionalism and commitment to quality of the TGCSA to the next levels of growth.

What we are looking for
As comprehensive SETA-accredited training will be provided by the TGCSA to assess tourism products, it is not necessary for you to have previous quality grading experience in tourism and accommodation products. However, the following will be to your advantage, in addition to a Grade 12 certificate, fluency in English and computer literacy in Microsoft products: • Minimum 3-year tertiary qualification in Tourism and Hospitality • Quality control experience (eg in the hotel or franchise industry) • Tourist experience in tourism accommodation establishments • Previously Disadvantaged Individuals will be given preference.

Is it important that you have your own laptop, 3G card, a mobile phone, are mobile and have the ability to travel around the area/province where you will be conducting assessments.

Personal qualities that will definitely count in your favour: • Excellent communication skills • High energy levels • Strong attention to detail • An investigative nature • Self-motivation • The ability to balance the demands of work and to prioritise • Excellent time management skills • The ability to work as part of a team and to build strong working relationships with a wide range of people • Good planning and organisational skills • Highly professional and presentable at all times • A “can do”/passionate attitude.

What we offer
• The Service Provider Agreement that you wil have to sign with the TGCSA as an Independent Assessor provides payment to the contractor of up to 50% of the grading fees paid to the TGCSA by the tourism product for a fixed period of 3 years • You will be allowed to grade a maximum of 420 tourism products per annum • All Independent Assessors appointed by the TGCSA, report to the TGCSA Provincial Master Assessors that are based in different provinces within South Africa.

NB: Please indicate the Province of your choice as this will be critical when allocating tourism accommodation products to you.
