SENIOR DIRECTOR, FINANCE/DEPUTY CFO ATLANTA, GA

CARE is seeking an experienced Sr. Director, Finance /Deputy CFO. S/he will be a strategic partner with the CFO in supporting the organization's mission delivery through value-added decision support and contributing substantially to the vision of high quality financial management globally for the organization. The Sr. Director, through oversight of the organization's control function, monitors the progress and results of departmental plans and advocates and engages in cross-functional actions and initiatives that are needed to improve our efficiency and effectiveness in achieving our mission. Models organizational change by leading change and new initiatives and serves as a key advisor to senior leadership on accounting and finance matters.

S/he will contribute to the development of multi-year strategic and supporting operational plans to achieve targets in support of the department and thereby the organization-wide goals and objectives. S/he will takes on role of CFO in CFO’s absence. Specifically, the Sr. Director is responsible for leading the finance organization to ensure reliable, accurate and complete financial information is provided in a timely manner to internal and external users worldwide for CARE/USA. This includes the development and application of policies to ensure that financial transactions are recorded and consolidated in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), coordination of CARE’s global budget process, consolidation of worldwide financial data, financial statement and tax return preparation, and through line or matrix management ensures the consistent application of financial procedures and systems throughout CARE USA to deliver a sound control environment.

The Sr. Director monitors the organization's financial health and reports to the CFO, Executive Management Team, Board Finance Committee, and CARE management making recommendations to leverage resources to serve the most good. The Sr. Director also provides direction with regard to the appropriate financial analysis of new initiatives and ventures that materially impact future financial health of the organization.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide ongoing supervision, leadership, support and guidance to staff;
  • Oversee the development and application of the organizational performance processes and systems with regard to budgeting, reporting and compliance with GAAP and donor cost and reporting principles;
  • Oversee the preparation of CARE/USA’s financial statements in conformity with US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), federal and state filings and the consolidation and preparation of the various tax returns for multiple entities;
  • With the CFO, plan and implement operational strategy in support of the organization's long-term goals. Establish and maintain CARE’s financial policies and procedures with regard to budgeting, recording financial transactions, internal control, reconciliation, reporting, and CARE International;
  • Serve as a member of various governance structures both internal and external to CARE USA in the oversight of subsidiary activity and program management.

Required Skills:

  • Degree in accounting or finance;
  • A minimum of ten years financial management experience, in an organization of comparable size and complexiy to CARE;
  • Certified Public Accountant;
  • Strategic Management & Leadership Skills;
  • Excellent communication and inter- personal skills; diplomacy;
  • Ability to balance customer service, team work and control for optimum use of CARE’s financial resources;
  • Problem Solving skills;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of control systems and application of management approaches or an equivalent combination of Education and Experience;
  • Strategic and operational change leadership;
  • Non-profit GAAP experience;
  • US Government grants and contracts accounting experience;
  • Cost accounting or job costing methods;
  • Presentation development;
  • Budgeting and forecasting/financial planning.

Desired Skills:

  • Masters in Accounting or Finance or related area;
  • Finance functional leadership experience in an international not-for-profit organization at a senior level;
  • Experience in developing or overseeing complex financial analysis and planning;
  • Developing and maintaining organizational financial performance measures;
  • Developing and delivering financial presentation to a variety of audiences;
  • Project management skills.
