The U.S. Embassy in Pretoria is seeking an individual for the position of Computer Management Specialist in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Minimum Requirements

Items 1- 5 are ALL REQUIRED
1. Education: Bachelors' degree in computer science, management information sciences, software engineering or equivalent tertiary qualification is required.
2. Experience: A minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in information technology support work is required. At least two years of experience will include direct supervision in an IT operation.
3. Language: English level IV (fluent) reading/writing/speaking is required.
4. Knowledge:
- A thorough knowledge of theory and practice of Information Technology management and administration is required.
5. Skills and Abilities:
- Must be able to absorb and understand complex IT and communications systems information and integrate this knowledge and understanding with policies, procedures and government regulations applicable to the acquisition and operation of the equipment and systems.
- Must be cognizant of the program priorities for a complex organization with both administrative and multiple programmatic elements and be capable of designing, implementing and managing IT and communications systems which adequately address these issues.
- Must be able to anticipate programmatic needs, technology shifts and changes in communication methods to maintain an effective and up-to-date system of IT and communications support for CDC-South Africa.

Job Specification

Basic Function of Position: The Computer Management Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing all CDC SA information technology (IT) development activities funded through multiple CDC programs including Information Technology Services Office, Global Disease Detection, PEPFAR SA. Management areas include computer hardware, software, systems architecture, oversight of local area network (LAN) systems and LAN and wide area network (WAN) systems with the implementing partner organizations including National Department of Health, security, training, internet connectivity, management oversight, overall operational communications and IT support to assure optimal IT service delivery for CDC and its implementing partners. This support includes the development and maintenance of routine information systems, national surveillance and reporting systems, and other software activities. The incumbent directly supervises the staff of the IT unit and coordinates applications development supporting HIV/AIDS program activities as defined in the SA PEPFAR Country Operation Plan (COP). Finally, the position will be responsible for planning and implementing the procurement of resources and training to ensure that CDC staff and participating partners are adequately equipped to meet their IT objectives. The incumbent will routinely update senior staff and technical working group leads on the progress of these activities and review priorities and scopes of work based on PEPFAR and CDC strategies. The incumbent is expected to provide strategic assessment and guidance to the senior management of the CDC South Africa office.

Basic Salary: R335,582 - R469,815 per annum
Cash Benefits: R101,311 - R112,497 per annum
Non-cash benefits include medical, pension and others where applicable
