Salary: R395 000 – R450 000 per annum (all-inclusive)
(5-year renewable performance-based contract)

Requirements: • PhD in the Social/Natural Sciences or relevant field • Good understanding of African affairs, policy trends and dynamics • Sound analytical skills • Good publication record in accredited journals • Ability to translate research into policy documents, write proposals for funding, policy papers and reports.

Duties: • Undertake research and publication as well as take part in seminars in the area assigned • Support AISA research programmes by honouring the responsibilities of monitoring AISA research quality assurance mechanisms (eg evaluating research proposals for funding), participating in the Research and Publication Committee meetings • Manage the research output of the unit, including supervising researchers to ensure alignment of research activities with the unit’s niche document, research agenda and research policy • Engage in capacity building programmes of the Institute, including mentoring interns • Undertake fundraising (proposal generation) activities in support of research • Network with researchers and other stakeholders in areas of your research and responsibility, including media.
