PR & Communications Manager CAB International Nairobi, Kenya


To be based in Nairobi-Kenya, the PR and Communications Manager will play a key role in leading, developing and overseeing the implementation of CABI’s media strategy across the whole business. He/she will report to the International Development Senior Communications Manager with a dotted line to the Deputy Director for Development for the Africa Region.
 
Established over 100 years ago, CABI is a not-for-profit intergovernmental science-based development and information organization.  CABI improves people’s lives by providing information and applying scientific expertise to solve problems in agriculture and the environment. Our mission and direction is influenced by our member countries who help guide the activities undertaken. These include scientific publishingdevelopment projects and research, and microbial services. A key responsibility for the successful candidate will be to build, protect, manage and reinforce CABI’s reputation and help ensure against loss of image. The job-holder will seek out new opportunities to raise CABI’s profile, promote the brand image and influence key stakeholders. S/he will build and implement a regional marketing and communications plan for CABI in Africa and promote the Centre’s capabilities.
 
S/he will have a Degree in Public Relations, Communications or Marketing, preferably with post graduate training in one of the above relevant fields and at least five years’ experience in an active Public Relations role. Fluency in written and spoken English is required. Multi-lingual (knowledge of French and/or Portuguese) would be an added advantage. Ability to use basic IT systems and software is required. The candidate shall have strong leadership skills, excellent administrative and communication skills with the abilityto prioritise and manage diverse workloads, use initiative and proactive thinking and demonstrate attention to detail. A strong understanding of project management systems and of working in a cross-cultural environment is desirable, together with ability to cope well with changing environments.
