Resilience Advisor - Gender and Governance
- Agriculture and Natural Resource Use Unit
Oxford
c. £36,110 gross per annum (dependent on skills and experience)
The newly formed Agricultural and Natural Resource Use Unit (ANRUU) has a mandate to provide thought-leadership across Oxfam GB’s programming on the equitable and sustainable intensification of agriculture and the identification of solutions for rural populations stuck in vulnerability and poverty, including the creation of viable livelihoods for those facing a precarious future.
The role
With your expertise and knowledge of gender and resilience you will support Oxfam's country programmes to help increase the resilience of poor and marginalised women by giving a better understanding of the power relations which constrain women's agency. This support will include training Oxfam and partner staff helping them to develop strategy, programme design, secure funds and support project implementation. You will also be required to synthesise and communicate programme learning on gender and resilience, while responding to organisational requests for briefings on resilience and advising senior management on technical issues.
What we’re looking for
Proven experience of working on a variety of approaches to building the resilience of poor and marginalised women in development programming is essential, as is a demonstrable understanding of the ways in which attitudes, beliefs and practices constrain poor women's well-being, and practical interventions to overcome these. You’ll also need an understanding of the practical measures to challenge the fundamental power relations which prevent poor and marginalised women realise their rights, support poor women to participate in decisions affecting them, and allow poor women to hold duty-bearers to account.
A strong analytical and conceptual thinker, you must be able to work effectively as part of team as well as on your own initiative and collaboratively in complex and diverse environments.
A willingness to travel extensively and for extended periods is essential, whilst a working knowledge of French, Spanish or Portuguese would be desirable.
About Oxfam
A simple, inescapable truth underlines everything we do at Oxfam. There’s enough wealth in this world to go around. It’s not unfortunate that people live in poverty. It’s unjustifiable. It’s not just their problem. It’s ours too. And with the right support, we can beat poverty and injustice. Thousands of people already commit their time and talents to our campaigning, humanitarian and long-term development projects. Now we’re looking for yours.
