Iron Ore Company of Canada 

 

IOC is a leading Canadian producer of iron ore concentrate and iron ore pellets serving customers worldwide. Context 

 

Reporting to the Manager – Mine Operations, the Development Superintendent (Mine Operations is responsible for blasting and drilling  activities throughout the mine by driving safe, efficient and effective mine development at optimum cost through the effective utilization and care of equipment and personnel.

 

 Accountabilities 

• Drive a culture of proactive hazard elimination through the use of personal risk assessments and creation of standardized work. 
• Provide effective leadership to the blast and drill teams by setting clear expectations, providing feedback and coaching, and establishing effective team processes.
• Managing team of unionize, staff and subcontractor of more than 130 people.
• Work with all supervisors to ensure adequate personnel resources are available to meet mine plan requirements. 
• Ensure production rates are in line with mine planning and schedules, coordination of daily activities in the Mine Operations team.
• Develop budgets and exercise effective cost management in areas of responsibility above $100M.
• Managing the explosive contract provider for the Mine Operation.
• Liaise with the Technical Services and Mine Operations Production team to assist in the development of short term mine plans by providing constructive feedback and input.
• Ensure Development team priorities are understood and resources are effectively utilized to achieve mine plans and maintain optimal pit conditions during the drill and blast process.
• Establishment  of contractor drilling companies and plan an effective level of maintenance to ensuring maximum drill;
• Contribute to and actively engage the Development teams to improve HSE, quality, productivity and work practices through the use of continuous improvement practices;
• Manage costs to reduce spending and efficiently optimize all resources available.

Education & qualifications

College/University Education
Bach. Eng. – Mining, or College Degree and equivalent combination of education & experience is desirable

 

Other Qualifications:

• Min. 10 years’ experience in a mining environment with the drill and blast expertise (mandatory)
• Demonstrated ability to engage employees in achieving safety, production and continuous improvement initiatives.

Valid Drivers License

Salary:

The salary is established base on the experience of the candidate in respect to the internal and salary equity. (Base:$90,000-120,000 per year).
