Background / General description:
The Syndicated Loans and Management Department (CSL) is seeking a Syndications Associate Officer/Officer GF1 to join its Europe, Middle East and Africa team. The position is with the Syndications division of the department (CSLSY) which is responsible for raising external funds for IFC clients, both through the B Loan program, Development Financial Institutions (DFIs) and other parallel lenders. The position will be based in London for up to 1 year to allow for assimilation with the team and is expected to be relocated to Nairobi thereafter with the intent to deepen the integration of Syndications with clients in Sub Saharan Africa. The CSL department also manages the ongoing relationships with B Loan participants in portfolio transactions, with parallel lenders where IFC acts as administrative agent (CSLLM) and invests and manages the portfolio under the Managed Co-lending Portfolio Program (MCPP).
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Follow international lending markets and banking activities to understand and anticipate trends, with particular focus on Africa, the Middle East and Emerging Europe. Regularly and proactively share market information with IFC colleagues. 

• Develop and maintain relationships with international, regional and local commercial banks, IFIs and other existing/potential B Loan Participants and parallel lenders.

• Syndicate IFC B Loans and parallel loans (including MCPP), and sell IFC A Loan participations in the secondary market.

• Conduct industry and bank market research and pricing data analysis, including secondary market pricing; prepare regular pricing reports for syndicated loans, with particular focus on Asia.

• Review company, economic and financial information and legal documentation for new transactions.

• Conduct deal-specific market soundings to advise IFC project team on deal structure and pricing; develop list of prospective banks and syndication strategy for individual syndications.

• Prepare information memoranda, executive summaries and other reports for the bank market in collaboration with the relevant Investment Department.

• Distribute marketing information to prospective B Loan participants and parallel lenders, and organize and attend roadshows for individual syndications.

• Prepare power point presentations for internal and external marketing.
Selection Criteria:
• M.B.A. (or equivalent master’s level degree) in finance or having a strong component of finance and accounting course work

• At least 8 years of relevant work experience, preferably with a leading international bank or other financial institution in the EMEA emerging markets, including at least 5 years of experience in the syndicated loan market and broad exposure to corporate and project finance.

• Understanding of international commercial bank market and main financial products, including loans, swaps and CDS.

• Experience with loan documentation and credit issues

• Experience in using available research tools including Dealogic – Loan Analytics, Bloomberg and market publications and bookrunning platforms such as Debt Domain, Intralinks and Syndtrak.

• Proactive, resourceful and self-motivated

• Strong team player, willing to be flexible and work outside business hours when needed, to accommodate multiple time zones.

• Able to manage multiple tasks concurrently, prioritize effectively and adhere to deadlines while always paying attention to details

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and strong editing skills. A good command of one or more regional languages would also be an advantage.

• Clear, accurate articulation of issues, problems and solutions

• Use of tact, diplomacy and good interpersonal skills in internal and external communications
