Payroll Clerk

Sasol North America has an opening for a Payroll Clerk.  This position reports through the SNA Human Resources Department and will reside in Houston, Texas.  Below is the scope and details of the position requirements:

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for supporting bi-weekly payroll of  800+ employees, processing direct deposits, producing physical checks and coordinating payments with Accounting and Treasury departments.  Also works extensively with field time entry personnel and responds to payroll inquires from all levels of employees.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Processes special payments including incentive plan bonus payments, special performance awards, union bonuses, deferred compensation and non-qualified stock options.
  • Works with Information Technology department and outside vendor to insure accuracy and timely application of tax changes for applicable Federal, state and local entities for US-Based and expatriate employees.
  • Administers relocation activities including home sales/purchases, processes invoices and reimbursements.
  • Enters  relocation earnings/expenses into HRIS system, maintains constant contact with third party vendors on status of relocation payments and assists HR representatives and employees with other issues as needed
  • Inputs data from time sheets, production records, or individual time cards to computerized payroll system. Also responsible for balancing payroll runs, producing federal, and state and local tax payments.
  • Answering employee questions and troubleshooting issues.
  • Coordinates expatriate issues including payroll, taxation and relocation expenses with parent Company as well as outside consultants and vendors, local management, Human Resources staff and Tax department (80 expatriates in the United States and abroad).
  • Analyzes 45 general ledger accounts to reconcile payroll, tax and benefit expenses and researches the payment status of outstanding vouchers as needed.

Experience and/or Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 3 - 5 years experience in multi-state payroll processing, tax compliance and general accounting required
  • Must be familiar with Payroll Processing for Canada
  • High Proficiency with SAP, Excel and Word
  • Has knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Able to handle multiple tasks effectively
