Senior Site Safety Coordinator

Sasol North America has an opening for a Senior Site Safety Coordinator.  This position reports through the Safety, Health and Environmental Department - US Mega Projects and will reside in Lake Charles, LA.  Below are details of the position requirements:

Position Responsibilities:


  • Monitor all site activities ensuring compliance to regulatory and Sasol North America’s requirements
  • Ensure minimum standards are developed, implemented and adhered to on site
  • Review all contractor safety, environmental and emergency plans prior to the commencement of work
  • Assist the SHE Manager and Site SHE Lead in the development and implementation of the Mega Project SHE program
  • Liaise with IPMT to improve contractor safety performance on site
  • Develop a sustainable safety program that meets regulatory requirements and is aligned with current site operations
  • Manage activities that may involve additional professional level contract employees, and manage projects that may include field crews and field activities
  • Ensure contractor compliance on site.
  • Participates in Trade Organizations outside the Company to further the Company’s interests.
  • Understand how environmental trends and directions will affect the strategic plans of the Businesses Units.
  • Develop and implement areas of safety compliance.
  • Interacts with various levels in the Business Unit operations and support groups teams, maintenance, engineering and other plant personnel.
  • Acts as the expert in the area of construction safety management
  • Develop, implement and manage compliance strategies.
  • Apply safety regulatory knowledge and experience to develop effective strategies and solutions to the current and future technical and regulatory issues facing the Company.
  • Develop training, interface with Training Department and train personnel.
  • Provides necessary services to Business Units to provide support in regulatory compliance.
  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with regulatory agencies.
  • Represents the company in trade association.
Experience and Educational Requirements:

  • Safety Science Degree preferred
  • Minimum 20 years of safety experience, with at least 10 years in heavy industry construction.
  • Experience in regulatory matters
  • Proven, practical on-site experience of the implementation of safety practices in a construction environment
  • Experience in safe work permitting
