Project Officer: Communications & Research

TFO Canada is currently recruiting for a new full-time Project Officer position for Communications and Research located in Ottawa. The successful candidate will be involved in the execution of a five-year Canadian Market Access and Capacity Building program that TFO Canada will be implementing beginning in early 2014. The Project Officer will be responsible for content creation for TFO Canada’s Canadian Market Trade Information Services, most of which are delivered online.
The Project Officer’s responsibilities, under the direction of the Project Manager for Trade Information Services, will include:
  • Researching/updating TFO Canada’s existing Canadian Market Information Papers and similar publications (see http://www.tfocanada.ca/mip.php)
  • Researching and generating/editing content for TFO Canada’s quarterly e-newsletters for developing country exporters and trade support institutions, and its monthly e-bulletins for Canadian importers
  • Generating/editing content for TFO Canada’s internal TFO Quarterly newsletter for Associates and Partners
  • Researching and editing/updating news, events and other content on the www.tfocanada.ca website
  • Developing content for, and maintaining TFO Canada’s presence on, social medial platforms including Twitter, LinkedIn and SlideShare
  • Researching and writing of periodic “success stories” of recent TFO Canada projects for inclusion in TFO’s publications and website
  • Supporting the delivery of TFO Canada’s trade representative training program held in Ottawa annually
  • Providing other research and communications support to TFO Canada staff
The Project Officer will formally report to TFO Canada’s Program Director.
Qualifications:
  • At least two years of communication related experience generating and editing content, preferably with a business orientation
  • Experience implementing and scaling a social media strategy, including managing social media accounts (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc). Demonstrating impact of your previous communications work would be considered an advantage.
  • Previous work experience providing research and analysis on international trade or a related subject
  • Knowledge of the Canadian import market and sources of information would be an asset
  • At least one year previous experience working with or in developing countries preferred
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Excellent research, writing and editing and copy-editing (English) skills
  • Ability to read French and/or Spanish highly desirable
  • Excellent computer applications skills, particularly Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and desktop publisher software such as MS Publisher, plus familiarity with website content management systems
  • Experience in graphic design is considered an asset
  • Business, English and/or Communications degree; a masters degree is preferable
