THE CENTRE FOR MATERNAL AND NEWBORN HEALTH at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (LSTM) is an active academic unit seeking to improve maternal and newborn health globally. One of our key programmes is the Making it Happen programme, supported by UK Aid. The aim of the programme is to reduce maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity by increasing availability and improving the quality of Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA) and Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care (EOC&NC).  The purpose is to ensure best practice and an improved policy environment in maternal and newborn health which will be reflected in a step change in the coverage and uptake of quality Skilled Birth Attendance (SBA) and Essential (Emergency) Obstetric Care (EOC) and Newborn Care (NC).
In Kenya, the MiH programme is currently being implemented in 3 regions (Western, Central and Nyanza) with national scale-up from 2014.  The key interventions are EOC&NC trainings, Making It Happen with Data workshops, Quality Improvement workshops and Monitoring & Evaluation. The LSTM Office in Kenya has been operational since January 2013 and coordinates delivery of the MiH programme in close collaboration with Ministry of Health at various levels and other stakeholders within Kenya.
We are now seeking to appoint a Finance Officer who will work under the supervision of the Senior Technical Officer to provide professional support to the day to day finance and accounting function for LSTM Kenya Office.  It is essential that you have proven experience in managing financial controls and systems and can produce monthly management accounts. You will possess a professional accounting qualification: CPA (K), ACCA, ACA and evidence of daily involvement of financial accounts work within a complex multi-disciplinary multinational or non-governmental organisation.
It is essential that you have excellent interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships both internally and externally as you will be communicating with a variety of different people on finance related issues.  The role will require you to work to tight deadlines so excellent time management and organisational skills are essential as is an excellent working knowledge of financial software packages and Microsoft Applications.
