RWI is an independent academic institution, established in Lund, Sweden in 1984, combining research with practical technical assistance programmes through its six field offices in Asia, Africa and Europe. Closely associated with Lund University, the vision of RWI is to serve as a centre of excellence for bringing academic research and capacity-building to bear on policy and practice in ensuring respect of human rights and International Humantarian Law (IHL). The Rule of Law and equal access to justice are at the centre of the work of RWI. The Institute has one of the world´s leading libraries in human rights and IHL literature. RWI,with its 55 employees, is seeking a Director with responsibility to the Board of Trustees for the strategic leadership and overall management of the Institute in a rewarding and demanding time of change and innovation.
Successful candidates should have
  • proven leadership skills, with an ability to inspire, guide, engage and promote a dynamic and collaborative culture of work between complementary skills of theory and practice
  • strong professional background in human rights and relevant academic qualification
  • experience from international relations and networking
  • senior level management experience and familiarity with change-management
  • ability to deliver cost-effective and sustainable results
  • excellent communication and representation skills
