Health Gain Team - Planning, Funding & Outcomes
Waitemata DHB, Takapuna, Auckland
This exciting new position has been established to support resource allocation decisions by the Planning, Funding & Outcomes Division of Waitemata District Health Board (DHB), which also has planning and funding responsibility for Auckland District Health Board. These two DHBs have a combined healthcare expenditure of over NZD$3 billion and have responsibility for responding to the healthcare needs of about one million inhabitants (23% of NZ’s population). The position comes with an honorary academic appointment to the School of Population Health at the University of Auckland.
The successful candidate will have a strong quantitative analytic grounding in health economics and a demonstrated ability to apply academic research findings to the day-to-day realities of healthcare prioritisation and decision-making. Good communication and teamwork skills are also essential qualities for this post.
Key responsibilities (amongst others) will include:
- Development and application of cost-effectiveness models and cost-utility analysis in support of service prioritization decision-making
- Providing health economics input into business cases for new service development
- Conducting or guiding reviews of evidence for the cost-effectiveness of specific health interventions
- Providing a microeconomic perspective to questions about prioritisation, funding models, and technical and allocative efficiency
- Providing econometric skills in areas such as forecasting and evaluation
- Working with Public Health Physicians in the Health Gain Team to measure and monitor performance against health and equity outcomes.
