ABOUT THE MASTERCARD FOUNDATION
The MasterCard Foundation is an independent, global organization based in Toronto, Canada, with more than $9 billion in assets. Through its programs in Financial Inclusion and Youth Learning, and collaboration with partner organizations in 49 countries, mostly in Africa, it is creating opportunities for all people to learn and prosper. Established in 2006 through the generosity of MasterCard Worldwide when it became a public company, the Foundation is separate and independent from the company. Its policies, operations, and funding decisions are determined by its own Foundation Board of Directors and President and CEO.
EVALUATION AND LEARNING AT THE FOUNDATION
The MasterCard Foundation has a strong commitment to program effectiveness and has engaged in a broad spectrum of monitoring and evaluation activities since its inception. At the Foundation, evaluation and learning are carried out in service of programmatic impact. Our evaluation approach is guided by three main principles:
- Involve multiple stakeholders within and outside the Foundation, including our partners and those that we aim to serve (i.e., youth and microfinance clients);
- Encourage staff ownership and investment in these activities; and,
- Incorporate lessons learned from evaluation and initiate actions based on our findings.
ABOUT THE INTERNSHIP
This is a three month (minimum) paid internship with the Evaluation and Learning team. Roles and Responsibilities Effectively demonstrating the Foundation's core values - achievement, innovation and collaboration, the Evaluation and Learning Intern will support a range of activities across the Foundation including:
- Research key areas, tools, and methods for evaluation and learning; including identifying and tracking best practices in monitoring and evaluation in the microfinance, youth learning and philanthropic sectors.
- Assist with development and maintenance of knowledge management systems, including the Foundation's Sharepoint platform.
- Provide technical input on strategic evaluation and knowledge management documents, publications and reports.
- Organize meetings, take notes, and provide logistical support for the team.
- Conduct literature reviews related to areas of interest to the Foundation Perform other administrative and evaluation-related projects as needed.
Evaluation and Learning Intern Skills/Qualifications/Experience
The ideal candidate should have the following qualifications:
- Graduate or current student in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in relevant subject matter, with training and/or experience in monitoring and evaluation and/or action-oriented research.
- Experience working within the international development sector.
- Experience living and/or working in a developing country, particularly Africa, an asset.
- Minimum two years of work experience in a professional setting.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in English required.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Proactive, engaged and a self-starter.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- The role requires an individual who is flexible, adaptable, and able to manage a range of job duties.
- Good organizational skills and demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (PowerPoint, Word and Excel).
- Experience with Sharepoint considered an asset. High emotional Intelligence and comfort with ambiguity.
