Country Director, Bangladesh

We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed person to lead our team in Bangladesh. The Country Director will be ADD’s most senior member of staff in country. He/she will be responsible for leading ADD’s country programme and supervising the strategic development of its role and relationship with key partners.

  • Annual salary: Between BDT 3,000,000 - 3,600,000, commensurate to experience.

Key Responsibilities (summary)
  • Participate to the strategic management of ADD International, working with the extended management team.
  • Further develop and refine ADD Bangladesh’s new strategic plan for 2013-2017 in line with ADD’s global strategy.
  • Build strategic partnerships with local and international donors in an ever more competitive environment, thus taking responsibility for and actively pursuing fundraising opportunities.
  • Be a member of ADD International’s global working group around 'Localisation'
  • Lead, manage and support the programme team to develop ways of working with partners, to encourage collaboration and cohesion within the disability movement, to strengthen the ability of Disabled People Organisations (DPOs) to operate, and to support the national umbrella body to become truly representative of membership organizations.
  • Designing innovative projects and plan, implement, monitor, review and evaluate the programme work at country/regional level.
  • Represent ADD and develop partnerships with the disability rights movement, government, DPOs and other development agencies and NGOs.
  • Manage the ADD staff team, resources and country offices.
  • Take responsibility for programme finances and budgets.
  • Ensure ADD complies with all local statutory and legal obligations.

Competencies and skills (summary)
  • At least 15 years of relevant professional experience is required in line with the above key areas of responsibilities, of which at least 10 with INGOs and at least 5 years in a senior management position in an international NGO.
  • A proven background in community or organisational development and an understanding of disability as a human rights issue is essential.
  • Demonstrated experience in: programme management; networking and strategic relationship building with stakeholders; fundraising with international and local donors; financial management; influencing and advocacy.
  • Commitment and understanding of the Social Model of Disability and a rights based approach to development.
  • Awareness of the issues facing disabled people and commitment to disabled people’s empowerment, especially that of disabled women, children and the most marginalized.
  • Strategic thinker with ability to lead, manage and represent an international development agency while holding together the paradox of being answerable to the UK organization but sensitive to local needs and demands.
