Assistant Professor in Science Education


Applications are invited for an assistant professor position in Science Education at the Laboratory for Coherent Teaching and Learning at the University of Southern Denmark.

Laboratory for Coherent Teaching and Learning is a newly founded partnership initiative by the Faculty of Science at the University of Southern Denmark, University College Lillebælt and University College South Denmark with the aim to develop and qualify a coherent approach to mathematics and science education from preschool to higher education.

The successful candidate will join an active research group in science and mathematics education, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations. The candidate will be a key academic partner in the implementation of coherent research based mathematics and science teacher programmes and will have to seek external funding and participate in professional organizations and conferences. The candidate will be involved in teacher education programmes and in-service teacher training and teach courses in science education at the undergraduate and graduate levels as well as advise bachelor's and master ’s degree candidates.

Preference will be given to applicants who have a record of successful work with primary or secondary school teachers and/or teacher students, have evidence of functioning well as part of a team, and possess an interdisciplinary background.

The candidate should have experience in several of the following areas:
• Pre-service and in-service science teacher training
• Students' interest and motivation towards science learning
• Practice-based and design-based science education research
• Inquiry based science education
• Interdisciplinary science education

Applicants must have a PhD degree related to one or more of the above mentioned research areas.

Appointment to the position will be in accordance with the salary agreement between the Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Applications will be assessed by an expert committee. Applicants will be informed of their assessment by the university.

- A brief survey of the applicant's most important research results and research plans for the next three years.
