Associate Professor in Environmental and Resource
Economics

The University of Southern Denmark invites applications for a position as Associate Professor (tenured) in the field of Environmental and Resource Economics at the Department of Environmental and Business Economics, Campus Esbjerg.
The Department of Environmental and Business Economics is part of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences. Research in the Department is organized in four research groups, and the announced position will be part of the research group “Management and Economics of Resources and the Environment” (MERE). In 2011, the MERE group was awarded a grant to build an internationally competitive ‘elite’ research unit with around 10 positions from Postdoc through full professor.
The research focus of the MERE group is currently particularly on five topics:
  • Risk analysis, risk management and risk communication
  • Pollution and resource scarcity
  • Environmental and natural resource regulation theory
  • Integrated models
  • Ecosystem based management
Within these topics, some current projects are focused on marine resources in the Arctic, economic considerations regarding nutrient use in the environment, technical change in the natural resource industries, international environmental agreements, green growth, and economic considerations for improved energy storage.
For this post, we welcome applicants with a proven research expertise in environmental and resource economics. Research interests that coincide with those of Department members are particularly welcome. Esbjerg is a hub for Denmark’s energy sector and an interest in research in energy economics and markets is advantageous. While the research group consists of economists, the research is often placed in multidisciplinary academic and international environments. The successful applicant should show ability to develop the research field further and a desire to cooperate with colleagues in the department. She/he will be expected to play an active role in the Environmental and Resource Economics research group and contribute to the development of the group’s research profile. The successful applicant will enjoy the benefits of working in an inspiring and open research environment.
The Department is engaged in externally funded projects, and the candidate is expected to have experience with applications for externally funded projects.
The teaching of the research group includes environmental and resource economics, microeconomics, finance, risk management, sustainability, green economic growth and energy economics on the under-graduate as well as graduate level. Class sizes are generally small and the teaching load is approximately equivalent to 4-5 hours per semester week.
